Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Propadyn Museart a more sustainable choice?

Propadyn Museart is a more sustainable choice for several reasons. First and foremost, it is a natural product and not chemical-based. It is composed predominantly of cellulose and is biocompatible. Its long service life further reduces the need for frequent replacements, limiting overall environmental impact. Propadyn Museart, moreover, is manufactured using a low CO2 emission facility.

Where can I buy Propadyn Museart?

For information on where to purchase Propadyn Museart, please contact us at info@propadyn.art, providing your company details and country of origin. Our team will provide you with all information regarding distribution and purchasing procedures.

When is its use necessary?

Propadyn Museart is indicated for all situations where it is essential to maintain a stable microclimate around artworks, historical artefacts or cultural heritage sensitive to relative humidity fluctuations.

In which situations can it be used?

During transport, handling, storage phases, in packaging and during exhibitions.

What is Propadyn Museart?

Propadyn Museart is a passive relative humidity stabilizer developed by Propagroup S.p.A. (Rivoli, Torino). Propadyn Museart regulates humidity in a bidirectional manner: it absorbs excess moisture when the environment is too humid and releases it when too dry, maintaining the internal microclimate of the display case within target values.

The product is supplied already calibrated to the desired relative humidity (RH) value, ready to use without the need for pre-conditioning.

What is the difference between Propadyn and any other silica gel stabilizer?

Propadyn Museart is cellulose and natural salt-based, making it biocompatible and safe to handle. Silica gel, by contrast, is by nature only a desiccant: to release moisture it requires chemical additives potentially harmful to operators. Propadyn Museart also ensures a faster, more precise and longer-lasting response to RH fluctuations.

What is Propadyn Museart composed of?

Propadyn Museart is made predominantly with natural materials. The external covering is Tyvek, a non-woven inert fabric that is breathable and resistant to volatile organic compounds (VOC). The product is biocompatible: it does not release liquids or dust during use and is not subject to deliquescence.

Is it safe for artworks?

Yes. Propadyn Museart has passed the Oddy Test with classification P (permanent use)This is the highest result provided by the international reference test for material compatibility with artworks.

What relative humidity percentages can it maintain?

Museart is available for any RH value between 35% and 80%, with a resolution of 3 percentage points. The most commonly requested values for museum applications are 45%, 50%, 55% and 60% RH. Custom batches with values tailored to the specific needs of the collection can be requested.

What is the stabilization precision of Propadyn Museart?

Under standard conditions, Propadyn Museart maintains relative humidity within ±3% of the set target value. This level of precision can naturally vary depending on the airtightness of the display case in which it is used and external conditions.

Does it work during transport as well?

Yes, and it is one of the primary applications. Museart is particularly effective in transport cases and specialized packaging, where active systems cannot operate. It maintains RH stability even under significant thermal variation conditions, protecting artworks during international loans.

How much material is needed for a standard display case?

The amount of product depends on the internal volume of the display case, its air-tightness and external environmental conditions. As a general reference, for a 1 m3 display case with good air-tightness, approximately one 400gr block is estimated.

For any questions, you can contact our technical team at:info@propadyn.art or use the calculator available on our website.

Does specialized personnel need to be involved for installation?

No. Propadyn Museart is designed for immediate installation, with no need for specific technical expertise. It is sufficient to position the product inside the display case or packaging. To achieve optimal results, it is advisable that the environmental conditions at the time of insertion are as close as possible to the desired RH value.

For any questions or needs, our team is available at info@propadyn.art.

Is a climate control system needed as support?

Not necessarily. Museart operates in a completely autonomous and passive manner: it requires no electrical power or supporting systems. In environments with very wide temperature fluctuations or high external air intake, coupling with an air conditioning system can increase effectiveness and reduce consumption of the active material.

How can you verify that the system is functioning correctly?

The simplest method is a digital data logger positioned inside the display case, which continuously records temperature and relative humidity. We recommend data loggers with configurable alarms to receive notifications in case of deviation from the target value. Alternatively, hair hygrometers or condensation hygrometers can be used for periodic checks.

How do you know when Propadyn Museart needs to be replaced?

By using a data logger, you will immediately notice an increase in RH fluctuations compared to the initial values, which indicates that it is time to replace the product.

Can Propadyn Museart be regenerated?

Yesregeneration is possible through a specific protocol provided by Propagroup. The process restores the original properties of the material and can be repeated up to two times, significantly extending the service life of the system. Regeneration can be carried out independently by following the technical instructions or entrusted to our reconditioning service. For further information you can write to info@propadyn.art

Is Propadyn Museart disposable?

Propadyn Museart is composed of natural non-hazardous materials and can be safely disposed of in undifferentiated waste.

What is the Oddy Test and why is it important?

The Oddy Test is a protocol developed in the 1970s at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. It evaluates the chemical compatibility of a material with artworks by exposing copper, lead and silver samples to vapors emitted by the material under examination at elevated temperature for 28 days. Museart has obtained the P classification, the highest possible, confirming the complete chemical inertness of the product.

Does Propadyn Museart have other relevant certifications?

Yes. In addition to the Oddy Test A+, Museart is certified flame-retardant according to European standards, a requirement often mandatory for use in public exhibition spaces. The product also complies with RoHS and REACH directives regarding the absence of hazardous substances. All documentation is available upon request.

Are certifications accepted by international museums?

Yes. The Oddy Test is the international gold standard for the evaluation of museum materials and is recognized by institutions such as the British Museum, the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and most European national museums. Museart's A+ classification meets the most stringent requirements in the technical specifications for international loans.

What is the minimum order quantity?

There is no rigid minimum order quantity. We serve both institutions with limited needs (a single display case) and large museums with hundreds of monitoring points. For evaluation orders and pilot tests we offer sample kits with the specific RH value required. Contact us for a customized quote at info@propadyn.art

How long does the production of a customized batch take?

Batches with standard RH values (45%, 50%, 55%, 60%) are generally available from stock or with delivery times of 5–10 working days. For custom values or large quantities, production time ranges from 2 to 4 weeks. We recommend planning orders in advance of installation dates.

Do you provide post-sales technical support?

Yes. Every supply includes technical installation documentation and a dedicated technical reference. Support begins with an initial consultation to identify the most suitable solution for your specific needs, and continues with monitoring following purchase and installation.
