The challenge. In 2016, for the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Italy-Japan relations, the exhibition The Genius of Michelangelo brought to three Japanese venues — Yamanashi, Tokyo and Fukuyama — the Study for the Head of the Cumean Sibyl (Royal Library of Turin, inv. no. 15627 D.C.), a preparatory drawing in black chalk for the Sistine Chapel. A loan granted only in the face of the highest conservation guarantees.

The solution. Throughout the exhibition period the work was housed in a state-of-the-art climabox containing the Propadyn humidity stabilizer inside, under constant monitoring by dataloggers.

The result. Despite temperature variations across the different venues, the relative humidity was maintained constant at 55% for the entire duration of the exhibition, ensuring optimal protection of the drawing.
